United to Christ. Conforming to Christ.

Romans 5:15-6:14

So many voices in our culture push us to create a self. But Jesus tells his followers to deny themselves. And Paul says Christians have been "ingrafted together" into the likeness of Jesus' death and resurrection so that our "old self" died and now we "walk in new life." Can culture and Jesus be reconciled on this point? What does it mean and how does it look to be united to Jesus' death & resurrection?
