The Radiant Face

Exodus 34:9-35

When Moses descended Mount Sinai after meeting with God, his face shone with the reflected glory of the Lord. Israel was afraid to come near him, and Moses covered his face with a veil. Yet the Apostle Paul teaches that this remarkable event was always pointing beyond itself. The fading glory reflected in Moses anticipated the surpassing and permanent glory revealed in Jesus Christ. Under the old covenant, God's glory was veiled, access to His presence was limited, and hardened hearts remained unable to fully behold Him. But through Christ, the veil has been removed. By the work of the Holy Spirit, believers now behold the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces and are progressively transformed into His image. This story reminds us that the Christian life is not ultimately about self-improvement but about union with Christ. As we continually behold His glory in the gospel, God Himself transforms us from one degree of glory to another until the day we see Him face to face.
