The Gospel of God

Romans 1:1-7

Romans opens not with advice for better living, but with good news about what God has done in Jesus Christ. Before Paul ever addresses sin, justification, or the Christian life, he announces the gospel, the long-promised fulfillment of God's covenant purposes through the death and resurrection of his Son. This gospel is not merely about how individuals are forgiven, but about the arrival of God's kingdom in Christ, the fulfillment of Israel's Scriptures, and God's plan to gather people from every nation into the obedience of faith. Paul introduces himself as one whose entire identity has been reshaped by this gospel from God, reminding us that Christianity is first a calling of the heart before it is a way of life. And this faith is to be lived and spread among the Gentiles, those who do not yet know God.
