Exodus 24

Exodus 24 is the formal ratification of the covenant. Moses, the elders, and the people pledge obedience, and Moses sprinkles the altar and the people with blood, symbolizing God’s binding relationship with His redeemed people. The blood signifies both forgiveness and consecration. This scene anticipates Christ, whose blood secures the new and better covenant. The people confess, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do,” a declaration that reveals human resolve yet anticipates human inability to keep the law and our need for a perfect Mediator. Moses then ascends the mountain into God’s glorious presence, where God’s glory appears like consuming fire. Exodus 24 emphasizes the seriousness of covenant relationship, the centrality of sacrifice, and the glory of God’s presence. In Christ, believers enter a covenant founded on grace, sealed by His blood, and fulfilled by His obedience. God’s redeemed people are invited into fellowship with the Holy God who provides a way to come into his presence.
