God Dwells with His Redeemed People

Exodus 35-40

The book of Exodus concludes with joyful obedience as God's redeemed people willingly give their resources, abilities, and labor to construct the tabernacle exactly as the Lord commanded. After the tragedy of the golden calf, God's grace produces renewed faithfulness, demonstrating that true repentance bears fruit in joyful obedience. Every detail of the tabernacle points toward God's ultimate desire—to dwell among His covenant people. The climax of the book arrives as the glory of the Lord fills the completed tabernacle so powerfully that even Moses cannot enter. Exodus ends not with Israel arriving in the Promised Land but with something even greater: God's presence dwelling in the midst of His redeemed people. In the final chapters of the story of Exodus, this glorious conclusion anticipates the entire storyline of redemption. God dwelt among Israel in the tabernacle, dwelt among us in Jesus Christ, now dwells within His church by the Holy Spirit, and one day will dwell forever with His people in the new creation. The story of Exodus ultimately points to the greater redemption accomplished through Christ, where God forever makes His home with those He has redeemed for his own glory.
