Gifted by the Spirit

Exodus 31:1-11

As the instructions for the tabernacle conclude, God turns our attention from the work itself to the people He has equipped to accomplish it. Bezalel and Oholiab are filled with the Spirit of God, gifted with wisdom, artistic skill, and craftsmanship to build a dwelling place worthy of God's presence. Their work reminds us that every vocation, every creative endeavor, every spiritual gift or ability can become an act of worship when offered in service to the Lord. The chapter also concludes with a renewed emphasis on the Sabbath, reminding Israel that their identity is not found merely in their labor but in resting in God's finished work. Exodus 31 teaches that God equips His people for the work He calls them to perform. Every gift is received by grace and intended for the building up of God's covenant community and kingdom. Ultimately, both Spirit-filled service and Sabbath rest find their fulfillment in Christ, who empowers His church by His Spirit and invites weary sinners to find their true rest in Him.
