A Holy Priesthood

Exodus 28-30

God has redeemed Israel, established His covenant, and now provides the means by which sinful people may continually approach His holy presence. Through the institution of the priesthood, the construction of the altar of incense, the bronze basin, and the anointing of the tabernacle, Exodus 28–30 teaches that worship must always take place according to God's design. The priests are clothed in garments of beauty and glory, not to elevate themselves, but to reflect the holiness of the God they serve and to represent God's people before Him. Every sacrifice, every garment, every piece of furniture points beyond itself to Jesus Christ, our perfect Great High Priest, who bears our names before the Father and continually intercedes on our behalf. This passage reminds us that sinful people cannot approach God on their own terms. God Himself provides both the mediator and the means of access. In Christ, believers now draw near with confidence because the perfect Priest who is draped in perfect holiness has secured eternal redemption through His once-for-all sacrifice.
